Kenshō is a Japanese tattoo artist dedicated to preserving the spirit of traditional Tebori, while sharing it with the world. As the successor to the lineage of Honke Horiyoshi (Kensho 1st), he blends heritage with experience—born in Japan, now based in the Netherlands, and a regular presence at international tattoo conventions across Europe and beyond. Each hand-poked tattoo carries not just ink, but a living tradition shaped by discipline, ritual, and cultural reverence.
TEGAKI
The literal translation of the word “tegaki” is “hand-drawn. In tattooing, tegaki refers to the technique of drawing directly on the skin with a marker, instead of using a stencil to trace the design on the skin. In Japan, there is numerous kind of traditional culture and crafts. Most of them are dying out due to the influence of modernization. Many craftsmen have no heirs and are already elderly. So I decided to start supporting them.
