Literal translation of Kakushi Bori is “hidden tattoo”. Basically it refers to the tattooed area on the inside of the upper arm. Which can include the armpit and the inside of the thighs.
JAPANESE TATTOO MEANING #8
KAKUSHI BORI
Generally, Gakubori doesn’t fill the inside of the upper arm and inside the base of the leg, which call Eguri. There are various reasons, but the balance that Gakubori uses adds to its beauty. And these parts of the body are quite painful.
Kakushi Bori is usually done after Soushin Bori is completed. The reason is that by the time you have completed Soushin Bori. You have become stronger and developed a tolerance for pain so these painful areas won’t hurt as much. If Gakubori is tattooed only on the arms then adding Kakushi Bori will not look good. And will not balance with the blank space left on your body.
While there are some restrictions and minimum rules that must be met in Japanese traditional tattoos. Only Kakushi Bori allows you to freely choose a design without worrying about the balance with other tattoos. It doesn’t matter if you add a stand alone design only or a design with background. You can get anything on it such as Manga characters. A saying, things you cherish, and what you like. It does not have to be traditional Japanese design either.
The inside of the upper arm and the inside of the base of the legs are not usually seen by others. So Kakushi Bori is like a personal tattoo. It is commonly known that emotions such as sexual desire should be kept inside. So basically it is the only effective technique for displaying Shunga(traditional Japanese sexual art)on the body.
Kakushi Bori is like an extra bonus stage for those who have finished Soushin Bori. Please have Gaman(patience) until finishing Soushin Bori and then have fun choosing your Kakushi Bori.
